From Object to Field

It is important to consider form versus an object in this theory, with objects being concerned with having obvious borders. In this theory, the form makes up many diverse elements while maintaining authenticity and preserving existing connections. Borders are less important, and the whole takes the stage.

Geometric versus Algebraic Combination

Architecture can be classified by coherent objects organized by symmetry, axiality, and formal sequence. Indiscriminate parts make up a larger cohort which informs the unit. Fields are ideally joined into a whole, with nothing needing to be added or subtracted.

Walking out of Cubism

Minimalism emerged and with it, several principles. The inherent meaning and the object itself were disconnected, with bodies interfering with the connection. This reduction of character and decorations fueled unitary forms and simple combinations of objects. Postminimalism on the other hand releases all of the characteristics that had previously been subdued. Movement, doubt, and tangibility emerge. These works are visible, a record of the field versus a framework.

Thick 2D: Moirés, Mats

When redefining the grids that we work on, we find interference between forms. When superimposed or placed on each other, we see a moiré. Lines hold meaning therefore connections between lines can be significant. Thickening of lines and intensification hold value in the real world and can display complicated networks and relationships.

Flocks, Schools, Swarms, Crowds

Flocks behave almost as one but follow basic principles that result in patterns. The flock is a field phenomenon, and problems can be overcome as a group. Crowds have more dynamics, in having emotion, different characteristics, growth, and movement. Patterns emerge, but they are not as obvious and are more complex
