These pieces were all written for a reporting class through the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon. These stories went through an editing process with the professor that was meant to simulate a newsroom.

Small Press, Big Stage

Powell’s Books, one of the largest independent bookstores in the United States, had a marathon reading of small press authors. It was a difficult event to cover as there was one author after another speaking, so conveying the event overall was a challenge.

The Signal and the Noise of Human Rights

The School of Journalism hosted a panel in response to controversy in the wake of the Edward Snowden revelations as well as research into events in Ethiopia carried out by its own graduate students.

This piece was a response to a controversy, both on Twitter and on more traditional news sites, about what course young journalists should take as they prepare for their career.
