The Building Business Leaders program has many benefits for students who sign up and work hard. Below are some of the project’s benefits in detail.

Live together:

Since 2011, pre-business students who identify with historically underrepresented minority family backgrounds who opt to live on-campus have the opportunity to live in a residence hall together. The building is one of five buildings that create the College of Business Residential Community. As such, it is a multicultural community that combines a supportive environment with a high performance culture designed to generate student leaders who confidently progress through the rigorous first-year curriculum. Study together:
Program participants take the same Introduction to Business (BA 101) in fall term of their first year. Being enrolled in the same classes is beneficial because of the immediate support system it provides as you attend classes every day.
As a group we have a motto, “nobody left behind!” We live it by helping each other review class materials, prep for exams and hold each other accountable for putting in our best efforts in every class.

Learn together:
Every cohort student has access to a growing circle of mentors who are available to provide support and advice. These mentors are upperclassmen Business students who have been accepted (or are on their way to being accepted) into the Lundquist College of Business. These mentors are available to provide advice not only on how they made it through their first two years at the University of Oregon but what experiences they found to be the most rewarding or what they found made their time a  bit easier.

 

Lead together:
Students are given multiple opportunities to volunteer for leadership experiences. Past projects include:
Creating, planning, and presenting to prospective UO students on the BBL program.
Designing, creating, promoting ads and media for local business professionals.
Collaborating, planning and executing fundraising efforts for the growth of the project.

Grow together:

What better way to see the benefits of studying business than to network with real professionals?
Students are exposed to professionals of color through class presentations, site visits, networking opportunities and hands-on projects.
Previous opportunities include: dinner with the President of UO, site visit to PriceWaterhouse Cooper corporate office and behind the scenes tour of the Trailblazer’s franchise.
