Alex was born in Astoria, OR and raised in the pacific northwest. He attended Western Washington University where he worked with Prof. John D. Gilbertson on Diiminopyridine iron complexes, and currently works for Prof. Tyler on synthesis and study of iron phosphine complexes for dinitrogen fixation. Alex was awarded a 2012 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.

Stephanie Nappa grew up near St. Cloud Minnesota and received her bachelor’s degree in Bioproducts Engineering from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. She decided to come to the University of Oregon for graduate school because of the environmental focus of the research, along with the mild winter temperatures. Her research interests revolve around polymers and she would eventually like to research more sustainable polymer materials.
