Celimene dazzles Paris society of 1666. Her salon is uber chic. Her impromptu portraits of fellow aristocrats are notoriously clever…although these stinging satires often lead to lawsuits. She even outwits a gaggle of suitors in the wake of her beloved husband’s death, only to be thrown for a loop by the arrival of Frank, an unapologetic hater of humankind. Inspired by Molière’s The Misanthrope, but deviating from its well-known story, this newly minted comedy by David Ives mixes very contemporary language in rhyming couplets with farcical flourishes and unexpected heart.
