General Team Information:
The University of Oregon Sailing team is a university sponsored, student-run club sport. The students make all important decisions including when and where to travel and how to pay for it. The team is a member of the Northwest Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NWICSA) and competes against other Universities around the country.
Practice is held out of Eugene Yacht Club on beautiful Fern Ridge Reservoir, located 20 minutes west of the college campus. Currently, there are 6 FJ’s, 1 Santana 20, and 1 Boston Whaler. Mandatory practice is held at 3:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a carpool is provided on these days. We meet on the street in front of the Club Sports Office on these days.
Accomplishments and Standards
The University of Oregon is a competitive sailing team both within NWICSA and on the national level. It is involved with fierce competition with the University of Washington and Western Washington University and all three teams regularly battle for First, Second, and Third place within the district.
Oregon Sailing also travels around the country multiple times a year visiting Boston, Annapolis, Hawaii, and multiple California venues. In total members can travel 16+ weekends a year if they wish. No one is required to travel, but it’s highly encouraged!
