Call for Abstracts: Posters, Illustrated Papers, Interactive Short Papers and Papers

Submission Deadline: April 30, 2014

The Environmental Studies Program at the University of Oregon is delighted to be hosting the 17th annual JCC. We look forward to organizing a stimulating conference.

The JCC has traditionally been a forum for environmental scholars from the three Oregon campuses to share their ongoing research and writing. In order to encourage interaction and engagement between participants, we are offering the opportunity for students to choose one of several presentation formats, as follows.

Description of presentation formats:

• Paper presentations are 15 minutes each, followed by 5 minutes for questions and discussion.
• Interactive short papers Interactive short papers are short paper presentations (5 minutes) designed to give students an opportunity to share works in progress or summarize findings of research, in addition to getting feedback from their peers. Interactive short papers will be given one after another and will be collectively followed by a 30-40 minute interactive period of feedback and discussion amongst presenters and the audience.
• Illustrated papers are short oral presentations (5 minutes) that will precede the poster session. These are designed to give poster presenters an opportunity to give a brief introduction to their posters.
• Posters are ideal for presenting work that can be communicated more clearly using visuals. As a rule, the amount of text on posters should be minimal. Posters will be displayed at the poster session and may or may not be accompanied by a brief oral presentation. Students choosing to make the oral presentation should submit an abstract for an illustrated paper. Otherwise, submit a poster abstract.

Our hope is that these options will encourage and enable more students to participate and present their work, as well as offer more opportunities for cross-campus dialogue and engagement within the Environmental Studies, Sciences, and Management communities.
