Graduate Employee Positions (GEs)

Graduate Employee Positions are awarded each year in Jazz Studies (as well as other music disciplines) to top applicants. Each GE in the Jazz Studies program is assigned teaching duties, but they may also be assigned some administrative duties as part of their workload.

GE’s at the University of Oregon maintain a minimum workload of .2 FTE (8 hours per week) and must be full-time students. Each GE position includes an academic-year stipend, a tuition waiver for, and a health insurance package that covers medical, dental, and optical care. More information about GE position details and benefits here: https://graduatestudies.uoregon.edu/funding/ge/salary-benefits

Beyond their application and audition for the Jazz Studies program, students must complete a separate application in order to be considered for a GE position in the School of Music & Dance. More information here: https://musicanddance.uoregon.edu/graduate-scholarships-and-funding

Applicants for Graduate Employee positions in Jazz Studies are not restricted to Jazz Studies majors. Likewise, graduate students in jazz are encouraged to apply in all areas in which they may be qualified to teach.  To be considered for a GE position outside your primary area of study (including Athletic Bands), please complete the GE Application.
