Graduate Colloquium with Nikki Silvestrini

Apr 23, 2015, 6:00 pm

Please join us for our Graduate Colloquium Series presentation hosted by Nikki Silvestrini, Thursday, April 23, 6:00 pm, in the Maple Room at the EMU on the University of Oregon campus.

“Ganglines: The Ties That Bind The Sled-Dog Community” is the result of fieldwork done at a Michigan sled-dog kennel for Nikki Silvestrini’s undergraduate thesis.  “Ganglines” looks at the role of dogs in the folk group as they are represented through narrative and humor while analyzing how this speaks to the human-animal relationship in this particular community.

Nikki Silvestrini is a first year Master’s student. Originally from Minnesota, she graduated with distinction from Indiana University with a B.A. in Folklore and Ethnomusicology, minoring in Rock and Roll history. She presented her undergraduate thesis “Ganglines: The Ties that Bind the Sled-Dog Community” at the OSU/IU Student Folklore Conference in 2010.
