Lesson 5: 01010111 01110010 01100001 01110000 00100000 01110101 01110000

In the final lesson, we will summarize the previous 4 lessons and relate it all to the real world. How is binary actually used in computers and technology? The students will brainstorm how binary can actually be used, as numbers and words. This will start with students journaling their ideas, then we will have a class discussion about it. We will discuss how binary is used for encoding instructions and data in computers, representing video and sound in CDs and DVDs, and through phone calls.

The artifacts that will emerge from this lesson is the students’ journal writings about how binary can be used. These journals will show the students’ understanding of binary from the previous lessons, and how they can relate it to the real world. These artifacts will be shared through the class discussion.
