Regal Entertainment Group will host its 2014 Summer Movie Express startingRegal movie June 17 in Eugene. The Summer Movie Express runs for nine weeks with select movies playing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the summer. JULY 1: OUT AND ABOUT AT BOUNCE GYMNASTICS

The Arc Families Connected will host an Out & About at Bounce Gymnastics for children with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and their siblings every Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. This weekly event will continue in the summer, but the group of volunteers will not be there to help. JULY 4: CRESWELL 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATIONJuly 4

Join the town of Creswell as it celebrates the 4th of July with a bang! Get breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed immediately by the famous Creswell parade. Enjoy entertainment, food and vendors all day at Holt Park, located at 1 N. 4th St. A fireworks show will be held at dusk.

JULY 4: FREE FIRST FRIDAY

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art and the Museum of Natural and Cultural History offer free admission the first Friday of every month from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both museums are located on the University of Oregon campus. Visit the museum’s websites for information on current exhibits.

Art and the Vineyard, an art and wine festival, will take place Fri., July 4 through Sun., July 6 at Alton Baker Park, located at 100 Day Island Rd. in Eugene. The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. The festival will feature fantastic wine, food and craft vendors, art, live music and the annual fireworks display to celebrate the holiday! There will also be a Youth Art Arena at the festival where kids can create arts and crafts.

JULY 4: DEXTER 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION

Come to Dexter Lake on July 4 to support local volunteer firefighters. There will be vendors, food, live music and a spectacular fireworks show over the lake. The festivities start at 4 p.m. at Dexter State Recreation Area, located at 39011 Hwy. 58.

JULY 4: 4TH OF JULY LIGHT OF LIBERTY CELEBRATION IN SPRINGFIELD

The Light of Liberty Celebration will feature music, food, family fun and a fabulous fireworks show set to music and reflected over the scenic Willamette River. Kid Nation activities will include magic shows, live music, balloon twisting, giant slides, reptile exhibits, crafts and games. Gates open at 4 p.m. at Island Park, located at 200 W. B St. Music starts at 5 p.m. and fireworks start at 10 p.m. Advance tickets cost $5 at the Springfield Utility Board’s main office or Jerry’s Home Improvement Centers. JULY 5: FIRST SATURDAY PARK WALK

The City of Eugene Recreation Services will host a free First Saturday Park Walkpark walk for people of all ages on Sat., July 5 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Whilmahut Nature Preserve in Alton Baker Park (from Centennial Blvd, turn south on Aspen St., go to the end of the street, cross Walnut Rd. to enter parking area). JULY 5: OBF KIDS – SLEEPING BEAUTY

The Oregon Bach Festival will present a rhymed-verse storytelling spin on the classic Sleeping Beauty fairy tale with live music on Sat., July 5 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and again from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, located at 7th Ave. and Willamette St. in Eugene. JULY 5: KIDS SATURDAY WORKSHOP AT MECCA

Kids and families are invited to the Materials Exchange Center for Community kids crafts 2Arts (MECCA) every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to make a creative reuse project. From magnetic puzzles to robot rockets to sock creatures, there’s always a fun, all-ages craft project for kids and families each Saturday. No need to preregister, just drop in any time between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. All materials are included for each workshop. A $3 to $5 sliding scale donation is requested per child. Children under 10 should be accompanied by an adult. MECCA is located at 449 Willamette St. in Eugene.

JULY 7: BEHAVIOR TRAINING (PART 1)

Early Childhood CARES will host its Summer Behavior Training starting Mon., July 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is a five-week training that will help parents learn effective behavior support strategies to use with preschool children with challenging behaviors. Subsequent classes will be held July 14, 21, 28 and August 4. The training will be held in room 145 of the Clinical Services Building at the University of Oregon, 901 E. 18th Ave., Eugene. Childcare will be provided to qualified Early Childhood CARES children and their siblings. Please call 541-346-2578 or email Carla to register for the training and arrange your childcare needs. JULY 11: LITTLE WONDERS – STORIES AND ACTIVITIES

Parents and preschool-age children are invited to the Museum of Natural and Cultural History (MNCH) at the University of Oregon on Fri., July 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for stories and hands-on fun, including crafts, songs, games and museum exploration. This month children will learn about the different parts of plants and how they grow and thrive. Admission for a family of four is $5 and  is free for museum members. Little Wonders is hosted the second Friday of every month at MNCH, located at 1680 East 15th Ave. in Eugene.

The Oregon Family Support Network hosts a monthly Respite Night for parents and caregivers of children and youth with emotional, behavioral, mental and/or physical challenges and special needs. The Oregon Technical Assistance Corporation (OTAC) will host a training on trainingStructure in the Home & Community – A Simple Approach on Mon., July 14 from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in the Carmichael Training Room at the Lane County Juvenile Youth Center, located at 2727 Martin Luther King Drive in Eugene. Come join a group of parents and share in the joys and struggles of parenting a child with special needs. This is a great group for parents looking to connect with other parents. The bimonthly Early Childhood CARES Parent Support Group will meet on Tues., July 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in room 201A of the Clinical Services Building, located at 901 E. 18th Ave. in Eugene. JULY 18: ANNUAL SUMMER MELODRAMA

The Cottage Theatre will present the world premiere of “Swindlers, Scoundrels, melodrama 2Liars and Cheats…Or, Oil’s Well That Ends Well” on Fri., July 18 at 7 p.m. at 700 Village Dr. in Cottage Grove. The script, written by Cottage Grove playwright Keith Kessler, features youth participants of the summer theatre camp. The show begins with several music and dance numbers. After that, the audience warms up with an old-fashioned sing-along and plenty of booing and hissing practice in time for the main event. Tickets are only $5. The annual Summer Melodrama is a great show for families of all ages.

JULY 19: KIDS SATURDAY WORKSHOP AT MECCA

Kids and families are invited to the Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts (MECCA) every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to make a creative reuse project. From magnetic puzzles to robot rockets to sock creatures, there’s always a fun, all-ages craft project for kids and families each Saturday. No need to preregister, just drop in any time between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. All materials are included for each workshop. A $3 to $5 sliding scale donation is requested per child. JULY 19: EUGENE SYMPHONY IN THE PARK

All ages are invited to come to the 6th annual Eugene Symphony in the Park on Sat., July 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cuthbert Amphitheater, located at 601 Day Island Rd. in Eugene. JULY 31: PINTS FOR A CAUSE TO BENEFIT EARLY CHILDHOOD CARES

Ninkasi Brewing Company will host a Pints for a Cause fundraiser to benefit EarlyNinkasi Logo Childhood CARES on Thurs., July 31 from noon to 9 p.m. at 272 Van Buren St. in Eugene. Ninkasi will donate 25 percent of all pint proceeds from the entire day to Early Childhood CARES. Come enjoy a great summer evening on the patio and support Early Childhood CARES! Brazil comes to the Amazon on Thurs., July 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. when the Amazon Community Center is filled with the sounds of Samba Ja. SUMMER SERVICES TO START JULY 7

The staff at Early Childhood CARES is excited to see kids again during its five-week summer session! Summer services will start Mon., July 7 and will end on Fri., Aug. 8. For more important dates, see Early Childhood CARES 2014-2015 Service Calendar.

SUMMER SKILL BUILDING CAMPS

The Child Center will host two different Summer Skill Building Camps forskills 3 youth, kindergarten through 6th grade, who are struggling with emotion regulation, self-esteem and getting along with others. Through the use of science, nature, crafts, movement, art, writing, games and drama, kids will learn positive coping skills, ways to manage difficult emotions and foster empathy for others. Kids will be split into small groups based on age and ability and will work with energetic and enthusiastic counselors. Session I will run Tues. through Thurs. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting July 8 and continuing through July 24. Session II will run Tues. through Thurs. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting July 29 and continuing through Aug. 14. The Skill Building Camp will be held at a Springfield Public School, to be determined. Lunch will be provided by the FOOD for Lane County free summer lunch program. Each session counts as nine client service hours, and children can attend one or both sessions depending on therapist approval. The camps are free for those with Oregon Health Plan. OREGON PARENT PROJECT

The Oregon Parent Project, a study at the University of Oregon’s Child and Family Center, is now enrolling parents/caregivers and their children (ages 28–44 months) who have a developmental delay or concern. All families are invited to participate in assessments and will be compensated for their participation. Some families will also be invited to participate in a parent education class focusing on positive strategies designed to promote child and family well-being. THE ARC LANE COUNTY’S JUMPSTART PROGRAM
