This course continues to study the language through selected readings in various styles and genres of classical Chinese literature. The course assumes the students’ prior knowledge of Modern Chinese, either through formal course work or by self-study, but all vocabulary will be glossed in English as it is introduced in the textbook. This is a reading course, so you will not be tested on pronunciation, but all students are expected to be able to read the text out loud as they are asked to translate it in class. Prerequisite: CHN436/536 or instructor’s approval.
