Michael Arnold is a Visiting Adjunct Instructor of Japanese Film in the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, and a Ph.D. candidate in the Departments of Asian Languages and Cultures and Screen Arts and Cultures at the University of Michigan. His primary research interests are Japanese film history and film theory–specifically, questions of cinematic representation in postwar Japanese animation and adult cinema.
