Common Reading 2014

The Robert D. Clark Honors College is pleased to present the Common Reading Program’s fifth book: Richard J. Davidson’s The Emotional Life of Your Brain: How its Unique Patterns Affect the Way You Think, Feel, and Live – and How You Can Change Them.

Richard Davidson is a professor of psychology and psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In this eye-opening book, Davidson masterfully blends the fields of psychology, psychiatry, and neuroscience. He shares a new model for treatment of psychological disorders through empowerment by increasing self-awareness and meditation and creates a new set of emotional continuums.

We have created this online forum to enable dialogue among incoming freshmen, current students, staff, faculty, and you. The University of Oregon and the Clark Honors College encourage you to take this opportunity to debate and discuss issues presented by this book, engaging with the text and its themes both online and throughout the academic year through guest speakers, film screenings, service learning, field trips, and of course, conversation.

We look forward to thoughtful and provocative discussion and wish you happy reading!
