Install and Configure CyberDuck
CyberDuck is a FOSS, cross-platform SFTP client. If you download the installer from the CyberDuck website (cyberduck.io), there are no problems with the installer whatsoever.
However, if you do a web search for “CyberDuck download”, you will see a site named softronic.com near the top of the search results.
Although Norton Safe Web finds no issues with softronic.com for downloads, not everyone agrees. In fact, if you click the wrong link on softronic’s download site, you may be at risk for installing malware on your computer.
Take-Away Points
- Always go to the developers web site first to download software. Avoid third-party websites.
- If you downloaded CyberDuck from Softronic, you should take your computer to the UO IT Help Desk in 151 Mckenzie to have your computer checked for malware.
Set SFTP as the Default Protocol
Set Default File Permissions
Uploading files to the server with CyberDuck sometimes results in file permissions on the server that generate a “404 Access Forbidden” error when you try to access the web page in your browser.
Here’s how to set up CyberDuck to do the right thing:
- Start CyberDuck
- Choose Preferences > Transfers > Permissions
- Check Change Permissions to these permissions:
