Child Development

Development

We study the timecourse of development of the functional subsystems identified in studies of adults. This approach provides a basic understanding of the architecture and origins of cognitive systems. In addition this research provides information that contributes to understanding the differences in neuroplasticity observed in studies of adults and in children with developmental challenges.

In current research, we are studying typically developing children age 3-17 years, children from lower socio-economic backgrounds, and children learning English as a second language. This research has been funded by the NIH/NIDCD (2007-2012).
