Learning Goals

Learning goals—>Reflections on Learning goals

1.  Gain a broader scope of the arts within the world we live.

We were exposed to many different forms of art and platforms it is shared with the world. Also, a lot of case studies from arts organizations from around the country demonstrated real-life experience, that made concepts easier to grasp. My understanding of what art is and how it’s shared is greatly expanded.

2. Learn more about where social media fits into arts culture today.

We learned about social media, but more in the context of the range of media in general that helps to share and support the arts. Transmedia can be connected to so many aspects of arts culture; the concept took me a little while to grasp exactly what “transmedia is”, but I’m glad I can think in broad terms like that now.

3. Use various forms of transmedia to effectively communicate an idea.

Our Module presentations provided hands-on experience using transmedia and thinking about how to present it to effectively communicate something. We all know and have been using various transmedia platforms throughout our daily lives, but thinking about it broadly and being more aware of our useage helps to expand our options and ability to community using it.

4. Understand what the future of the arts might be.

We had several intriguing essays showing case studies and statistics about where the arts are headed. We also learned about the integration of new technology and how important it’s becoming in our world, including many if not all art worlds, at least in some way. The activity where we split into groups to describe an art platform in the future with each group having a different time jump into the future, showed some great critical thinking and presenting some interesting, funny, and slightly scary futuristic ideas.

5. Learn how I can fit into the future of arts in our society.

Now that I understand the use of transmedia and how arts organizations are affected by technology, I feel like I can critically think and make more informed decisions in the future, whether it’s regarding my personal art or an organization I work for. Discussing the ideas of audience and participation particularly resonated with me and is something I’ll constantly be considering in the future.
